Miguel Tejada Will Be Traded

One thing is certain, whenever the NY Yankees make the Boston Red Sox look silly by signing one of their star players or scooping up a free agent that the Sox wanted to sign, Boston’s ever PR conscious front office springs into action.

That’s where Miguel Tejada comes in.

Tejada has made it clear that he wants out in Baltimore.

The Orioles are petrified that Tejada could poison the 2006 season if he isn’t traded ala the way that Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmiero torpedoed the Birds in 2005.

So what are the possibilites?

Milton Bradley Will Play Right Field and Hit Third in Oakland

Milton Bradley is the new A’s rightfielder.

During Bradley’s phone conference with the Bay Area media he was asked if he had any problems while playing in Los Angeles.

Bradley said his physical injuries stopped him last year, but wouldn’t acknowledge any issues he had with teammates especially with Jeff Kent.

Frank Thomas Not Worth The Risk

Seems like the A’s attention has been drawn to former Chicago White Sox star Frank Thomas as the team’s answer to its pressing need for a legitimate righthanded bat to protect Eric Chavez in the line up.

I wouldn’t go that way.

The A’s don’t have room for a misstep at this position. Money is always an issue and if the team whiffs on a contract with the Big Hurt it will not be able to dig its way out of the probelm until midseason, if at all.

Thomas’s nickname says it all. The Big Hurt can’t run a lick plus he is coming off a very serious ankle injury.

Next Inside Baseball Rescheduled

Due to some legal issues with KYCY the next Inside Baseball Show will not be heard as originally planned Tuesday December 6th, but instead will return on December 21st.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Winter meetings should be quite interesting. Rangers need bull pen help, Nomar might go back to the Cubs because they whiffed on Rafael Furcal. Manny to the Angels? It’s not impossible.

Weather is beautiful in Florida. I could get used to this vacation stuff.

Tomorrow I’m interviewing one of the former Phillies Whiz Kids, NL 1950 Champs, Steve Ridzik.

Inside Baseball

I’m planning to go to Florida for some fishing, interviews, and business.

Next Inside Baseball the winter version will be this Wednesday at 6: 30 PM heard on 1550 AM in the Bay Area.

Shooty Babitt, Ken Korach, and I will give baseball reports plus the show will be hosted by Bay Area basketball personality Carl Foster.

Also check out my new podcast, Marty Lurie’s Sports Exclusive on kyouradio.com, check out the website. Go to the baseball scroll in the menu and you can find the show. I’ll be sending one show in each Monday. It’s fifteen minutes in duration and a lot of fun giving my view on current sports events including the Hot Stove League.

Hope you are enjoying the baseball moves. I applaud the White Sox for picking up Jim Thome. Aaron Rowand is a gamer and will help the Phillies. The Marlins got some excellent players for Josh Beckett et al. The Red Sox have a legitimate ace in Beckett, but his injury history is a red flag. The Blue Jays are trying to give money away and snared a willing customer in BJ Ryan, but they already had a closer, Miguel Batista. Now the rumor is Batista will go to the Rangers for Kevin Mench.

John McLaren is the man for the Dodgers managerial job, I hope he gets the nod.

Winter Version of Inside Baseball Announced

I’m glad to let everyone know that the Winter version of Inside Baseball Saturday Night will begin at 6 PM on Friday November 25th.

The show will be broadcast on 1550 AM a strong signal heard here in the metropolitan Bay Area.

The show will run for 70 minutes and lead in to the pregame show for Cal men’s basketball.

The shows will be on during the week and start times will vary depending on the time of the basketball game. Figure we will be on about 90 minutes before tip off of most of the weekday Cal games.

Ken Korach will be a regular guest as well. Shooty Babitt will join us as we discuss the winter baseball news.

I’m looking forward to doing the show.

Right Handed Bat and More

Back from the world series and I must say I enjoyed the games in Houston very much.

Each game was packed with managerial decisions and both games went down to the last pitch.

I was very impressed with Bobby Jenks. In game three the atmosphere was electric with the game on the line on every pitch. Jenks throws the ball over the plate at 95-100 mph, it is almost impossible to get a good swing on the ball.

If Jermaine Dye wasn’t MVP, the award should have gone to Jenks.

The A’s are not going to sign Mike Piazza. He is over the hill plus he will want too much money. You can jam Piazza and definitely work on him when he is at the plate. Physically he breaks down all the time and can’t run a lick.

Set your sights on a younger player like someone in Pittsburgh.

Sox Can Close by Marty Lurie

I’m down here in Houston and watched game one of the series with Art Howe.

Some conclusions:

Next time Mike Lamb won’t face Neal Cotts with the game on the line.

Most managers will give their players the benefit of the doubt when they have produced in the past.

It is clear that Lamb couldn’t catch up with Cotts so next time Phil Garner will go with a right handed hitter late in the game.

Contreras didn’t have his good stuff but some times its better to be lucky than good because the Astros hit the ball on the nose, but to no avail.

Roger Clemens was hurting, it wouldn’t surprise me not to see Clemens again unless the Astros send this series to a game six.

Bill King, The Third Man Out

There’s an old saying that deaths come in threes.

I now believe it.

Three very unique men, connected in so many similar ways, have passed from the Bay Area’s sports scene.

First Bill Rigney passed away on February 20th, 2001 at the age of 73. Then Leonard Koppett succumbed to heart failure on June 22, 2003 as he approached his 80th birthday.

Lastly, completing the famous trio’s passing, Bill King, 78 years young, passed from us on October 18th, 2005.

All were very special men who were loved and respected by all that came in contact with them.

They had another wonderful character trait that separated them from all the others who were similarly situated in their field.
