SCHILLING WAS THE MAN

There is no doubt than when
historians review this 2004
World Series they will have
to admit that Curt Schilling
was the inspiration for
this incredible season.

By Amaury Pi-GonzálezAthletes are not only
supposed to entertain
us but also inspire us.

Nobody did that better
than one right handed
pitcher born in
Anchorage,Alaska,
Mr. Curt Schilling, a
guy than not only won
21 games during the
regular season (best
in the Majors) but also
pitched key games
in the post season
with a very bad right
ankle. Millions of
people watching
Curt pitch cringed
when the camera
did a close-up
of a right ankle
all taped, showing
blood. We watched
Schilling while sitting
on the bench in
between innings
put his head in his
hands, praying,
asking for a
supreme force
to help him.
He is a man of
deep faith and
perseverance
and he showed
both during this
2004 Playoffs
and World Series.

I just wanted to
write about him
because he was
the best example
of an athlete earning
his fat paycheck.
I can think right
now of 12 maybe
20 Major League
pitchers that would
not even attempt
to pitch under those
conditions(I will
not mention their
names, but If you
follow the game
you know)

The most inspirational
player this season
in Major League
Baseball has to be
Curt Schilling.

Schilling lifted the Sox
with some of the
most gutsy performances
you would ever seen
in sports postseason
competition.

The Boston Red Sox
should build a statue
for Curt outside
Fenway Park, his
determination and
courage went to a
level rarely seen
in this sport. It took
Schilling to
really put away
the infamous “Curse
of the Bambino”
a prolonged
nightmare for Sox
fans that lasted most
of a century.
Under that statue
there should be
signatures of all
the hundreds if
not thousands of
Red Sox players
that have played
for that franchise
since 1919.

He was my MVP pick, not Manny. He was inspirational, even though he voted for Bush.

Rob,
Let’s not get carried away here. Schilling
was not the only one that voted for Bush
last Tuesday. Another 60 million
people did also and they didn’t pitched
in the World Series.
