A Deal for the A's
Here’s how the A’s can get one of the Dodgers stud setup men, Paul Quantrill or Paul Shuey (I prefer Quantrill.)
They need to send a good prospect and a so-so prospect to the Rockies for Preston Wilson, who is having a great year but makes a ton of money (9 mil next year and 12 mil in 04). The A’s get the Rockies to also throw in the remaining $2 mil on Wilson for this year. The Rockies will do this to get the prospects and to be rid of his 04 and 05 salary. The A’s might have to give up two good prospects (Duchscherer and Joe Blanton?)
The A’s then send Wilson and the cash for 03 to the Dodgers for Quantrill. The Dodgers can afford Wilson’s 04 and 05 salaries more than the Rockies or the A’s.
This also takes the Dodgers out of the running for guys the A’s might want, like Rondell White.

Interesting suggestion. I don’t know much about Quantrill. If the A’s can keep the guy for more than a year, then they should do it.

I second this idea although I don’t think the A’s would have to pay a “two good prospects” price to get Wilson.
Quantrill is defintely a stud who would be ideal as the right handed setup man.
Maybe the crowds we’ve been having will allow Schott to loosen the purse strings a bit. Cause what we desperately need is hitting.
I liked Menechino’s work tonite and prefer him over Ellis ( in the Softmore Slump mode) right now.

I like the deal too, last year when the A’s dealt for Lilly I thought they should have kept Weaver. In this deal what if they bit the bullet and hung onto Preston Wilson with some financial help from the Rockies and sweetened the pot with Nick Swisher. With Wilson in the outfield you would have a legit five tool player who could add much to a very stagnant lineup. I like Menechino playing now and would give Dye 10 more games to break loose before platooning him more often with McMillon. The 4 and 5 starters are another story.
