Angels Hammer Mariners Again

The Angels have the formula down for beating the Mariners. See how many runs Seattle can score early in the game, then let the big bats clobber the either the Seattle starter or the out of shape Mariner bullpen.

One thing I like about Vladimir Guerrero is his smile. It seems every time the slugger comes through with a big hit or scores an important run, his face lights up.

Last night Rafael Soriano continued his spring training session in the majors with another loss, his second of the year.

Scott Shields, who should be in the rotation, Francisco Rodriguez, and Troy Percival ended the game in fine fashion for Anaheim.

Tonight Freddy Garcia who pitched extremely well in his first start against the Angels goes against Ramon Ortiz, a pitcher the Angels would love to trade.

The A’s got timely hitting and a big out from Chad Harville to hang on against Texas.

What’s up with Barry Zito?

Is it focus? Arm strength? Who knows, but this pattern of his not being able to consistently make an important pitch when he needs it, is getting old.

Click below for more!Kevin Brown is hoping for clear weather today as he goes for his third straight win over the Devil Rays. His opponent the soft tossing Mark Hendrickson, former NBA player.

I wonder if Gary Sheffield’s thumb injury is effecting his power stroke? At some point, he is bound to go on a tear if he is healthy.

Big start for Jeremy Affeldt against the White Sox today. The Sox still have the sluggers from the right side and the lefty Affeldt is needed by KC to be the man who gives this team a power game once in a while.

Jon Garland walked the park in NY in his first start, but did hold the Yankees in check. Garland is one of the keys for Chicago as they look for a replacement for Bartolo Colon’s innings.

If the Orioles don’t win when Sidney Ponson pitches, it may take them a week to win a game because whoever follows him in the rotation is not getting the job done. The Orioles bullpen is no picnic either.

If the A’s are serious about trading Justin Duchscherer then how about to Baltimore who just designated Jack Cust, an on base percentage guy, for assignment.

Seems like a fit for both teams.

The Tigers played little league defense Tuesday costing them the lead and the game against Toronto, a team that looks dead in the water without Roy Halladay winning.

Jeff D’Amico had a nice first game, but he always looks like he may be putting it together again, then his arm goes out. He pitches against Minnesota today and Carlos Silva.

It took 23 pitches for Billy Koch to close out the ninth inning yesterday for Chicago. Three batters, 23 pitches, 8 per batter, you tell me does he have his stuff?

Let’s see if you walk Barry Bonds in a key situation your pitcher won’t learn how to get others out when the moment comes up again. But you keep the lead.

If you pitch to Bonds you lose the game if he homers, which you know he is capable of doing on any pitch.

Ned Yost manager of the Brewers now has two losses in the first two games using strategy number two.

Houston is a better overall team than St. Louis. Wade Miller pitched nicely in his first start and today goes against Chris Carpenter who will need ten starts before I believe he is back.

Cubs don’t hit, Cubs don’t hit! Frankly, their pitching without Mark Prior is still pretty good, but that offense is in low gear.

They should get healthy against Ryan Vogelsong today.

I love the Marlins and the way they play the game. Dontrelle Willis may not burn out in his second season no matter how many pitches he threw last year. It’s his fourth year I’d worry about.

Cincy bullpen still very tough. Phillies need a win big time, today is the day.

Tyler Yates threw a terrific game in his first start. With the weather lousy in NY and the Met bullpen a mess, this may be a tough one today for the banged up New Yorkers.

Joe Kennedy and his curve ball in the snow in Colorado. Not a good combination. Perhaps a monster day for the struggling Richie Sexson.

Kaz Ishii is a gamer, too bad he walks so many and is always in trouble. David Wells can beat LA, especially in this big park. Will LA run on Wells? He better keep them close.

Padre bullpen is another story.

Tomorrow is April 15th, Jackie Robinson Day. Finally, baseball got it right after 57 years.

Barry Zito never has had good control of his fastball, even in his Cy Young year. His effectiveness, what makes him an excellent pitcher, is his plus curveball. If that’ not working or he isn’t throwing it, he is just a mediocore pitcher. Sure, his changeup is pretty good. But without the curveball hitters will just sit on and eventually get a batting practice fastball to hit. For some reason, Zito isn’t using his curveball enough. That was the problem last season when he’d get hit around and it was the problem Tuesday night. He threw way too many fastballs even when he was ahead in the count. Anyone have any ideas why? Has he lost confidence in his curveball? Are Zito’s best days behind him? Maybe that’s why he is trying to break into acting.
