Marty-

Can you ask Carney about his son Jared and how he feels about him pitching for the A’s. I know there were some rumors that he wanted him to play the infield. If you’re taking calls, maybe I’ll call up and ask him myself.

About Thomas, I think it is a very good signing. Since the A’s got him for cheap, he is well worth the risk. Because this team was already a serious contender before the addition of Thomas, they don’t need to rely on him too much. Even if he plays half a season, he could have a large impact on the club. He hit 12HR in only 34 games last year! He’s still a legitimate power threat, even if he is over the hill.

Dear Marty

The addition of Frank Thomas is a low risk gamble. If he
returns to form it will be a win-win situation. The A’s will have their big right hand bat at a fairly nominal cost and Thomas will be able to add to his potential Hall of Fame numbers. If he can’t make it back, the A’s will not have hocked the family farm to obtain his services. My hope is that there is still a lot of baseball left in the Big Hurt. The A’s
are moving in the right direction and a healthy Frank Thomas may be just the right ingredient to get them back to the playoffs.

Hey Marty,

The “Big Hurt” coming to Oakland will be fun if he is healthy. Also, this move will rise the question of Payton or Kielty who might be traded since according to Mychael Urban, “The A’S don’t want six million dollars on the bench”. Hope, I listen to the show tonight, if not I could hear podcast later. Lately, Thomas is happy that he going to face Zito in the A’S intersquad game.
