A's lack last year's plate discipline

Just when you would love to agree with the sign at the Netwrok Associates Coliseum when the Yankees we’re in town that stated “Jason Who?” it’s time to evaluate how credible of a statement that is.”

Dale gives us his take on the A’s.

While the Oakland Athletics pitching staff may be the culprit to their recent struggles, you have to ask your self a question..Is there any one in the A’s lineup that puts a fear in an opposing pitcher? Well, you can safely say “Eric Chavez is a hitter to be reckoned with..” but good pitchers know how to get him out–especially with his free swinging style of hitting.

Who else? Really no A’s hitter sparks a fear in an American league pitcher like the recent MVP now a yankee–Jason Giambi.

Giambi added so much intensity to the A’s lineup. The pitcher’s game plan would be adjusted be each plate appearance of the “G” Man.

If the pitcher failed to give Giambi a strike, he would gladly take a walk, while not forcing his swings. This type of patience allowed him to set the tone for a high on base percentage line up.

Jason was a dominating offensive force in all aspects of the game with the power to send fans home early–yet with the patience to take first base if the pitcher refused to pitch to him.

Giambi made pitchers nervous. He made them think harder. He put fear in their eyes.

Yes, the A’s lineup lacks the “Fear Factor”
