Angels Getting Loose

Vladimir Guerrero and company are swinging from their heels right now. They don’t come up to the plate looking to play small ball or hit the ball the other way.

They let the bats fly and are truly very scary. Troy Glaus, Garret Anderson, and Darin Erstad are nice and loose right now. The key may be David Eckstein who is healthy and getting on base.

Jarrod Washburn like Steve Trachsel for the Mets last night couldn’t hold the big lead, but the Angels held on to win once the bull pen got involved, opposed to the Mets whose bull pen got rocked by Atlanta.

The Rangers have a decent bullpen as they showed yesterday against Oakland. Francisco Cordero can close and the lefty Ramirez can get the tough lefthanders out.

The Rangers are very young offensively. A different team from last year when A Rod, Palmiero, and Juan Gonzalez hit 3-4-and 5.

Blalock, Soriano, and Teixeira need to grow into their roles and they will need a full season to do it, but this team is headed in the right direction for a change.

Click below for more! What a weird injury to Scott Spiezio. I’m still not sure what a soft tissue injury to the muscles in mid back is and why two doctors wanted to operate on the new free agent for the Mariners.

Reliever Rafael Soriano looked good for Seattle last night, eventually he will need an off speed pitch to go with his 95 mph gas. He’s a better looking Felix Rodriguez.

For some reason he got involved in a rundown play at the plate, something every pitcher tries to avoid, and he dropped the throw trying to make the tag on V. Guerrero.

Joel Pineiro got hit hard last night. Freddy Garcia tries to slow the Angels down this afternoon before Seattle heads to Oakland.

The A’s offense looks anemic and especially should have hit the Rangers better in the first series.

Kenny Rogers, Chan Ho Park, and Colby Lewis ain’t that good.

Park was effective for five innings, but clearly was a different pitcher in the sixth when the A’s took the lead.

Richie Sexson got his first Arizona homer last night supporting Brandon Webb’s excellent six inning outing.

Now the rotation gets interesting for Arizona with Casey Daigle and Elmer Dessens coming up.

San Diego needs some strong bullpen help. It wouldn’t hurt to hit the ball either. Jeff Weaver showed something in his first game as a Dodger last night. LA bullpen did their thing too.

Maybe the Padres were looking forward to tonight’s opener at Petco Park as they lost two of three to LA.

Let’s see what David Wells brings to the table. I think he will rise to the occasion tonight against SF.

Roger Clemens! He hasn’t lost it and it would have been a shame to see him retire because he can still pitch. He more than Pettitte will be a strong influence on the rest of the young Houston pitchers.

Cincinnati showed some pitching yesterday. Paul Wilson has always showed flashes before, and last night threw very well against the Cubs. More importantly, Ryan Wagner and Danny Graves closed the game out crisply for the Reds.

White Sox went to Billy Koch to close last yesterday. Let’s see how long this lasts.

Phillies used the bullpen very well last night. Tim Worrell to Billy Wagner who struck out the side.

Mets couldn’t slow the Braves down. Nightmare situation guaranteed when the middle relievers get bombed.

Scott Schoenweiss in Yankee Stadium today against Javier Vasquez. Somehow I think NY is in for a big day in what should be a big circus atmosphere.

Barry Zito did just enough to lose yesterday, sort of a continuation of what happened to him last season. Inexplicable wildness which eventually costs him the game.

Jeremy Affeldt first start today. He was great in Arizona. Are his blisters a thing of the past, we will soon find out.

Joe Roa now in Minnesota rotation, not a good sign for the Twins. Hnery Blanco and Matt LeCroy the catchers with Joe Mauer out.

See you tomorrow.

Marty, I sure agree with you about the Rangers young line-up. They look very good. Even as an A’s fan, I was impressed with them. Mench made two excellent catches.
I do hope the a’s line-up is doing their usual and just starting off slow. But Jermaine Dye!!! Oh My! He’s on the road to come back player of the American League. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Great to have you back every day.

Hi Marty,
Given the A’s early offensive woes, lets hope the Angels tenderize the M’s pitching for the A’s. Maybe the A’s can get some fat pitches to hit from the M’s pitchers trying to be too perfect.
Macha needs to switch Scutaro and Crosby in the order now. Scutaro puts good wood on the ball. I like his at-bats. I think it would have been a different outcome yesterday if Scutaro batted 7th.
Zito was lucky not to give up more runs last night. He was saved by a couple of double play balls. Crosby and Scutaro are sure no Tejada and Ellis. I’m keeping track. Tejada would have made the play on at least 3 balls Crosby didn’t field thus far.
