Braves Still Crushing the Ball, A's Score in Detroit

Texas moves its road show into NY as The Rocket goes for number 299. Colby Lewis is still in the majors and must face the daunting task of the NY crowd and Clemens’ march to 300. A tall order for a pitcher who has trouble keeping runners off base. The only better opponent for Clemens would be Ryan Drese, but Lewis will do just fine.

Unless Texas unleashes the bats against the Rocket, number 300 is there in his next start.

The A’s knocked Adam Bernero around in Detroit and now move on to Cleveland. The Indians suffered through a long rain delay Thursday night and must be thankful they got to sleep in their own beds last night.

Eric Byrnes, as I’ve said, doesn’t miss his pitch and he broke open the game in the second inning with a bases loaded triple. My player of the game.

Maybe the Dodgers would be interested in Jermaine Dye once again. The A’s tried to trade Dye to LA immediately after they picked up Billy Koch last December 2001 for Gary Sheffield. LA backed out at the last minute because of fears about Dye’s broken leg. LA is desperate for offense, maybe the A’s could move Dye now and put that money in Chavez or Tejada’s hands. At least Byrnes is healthy and does add a spark to a very stodgy offense.

Last time the A’s faced CC Sabathia, the big lefty couldn’t field his position and the game turned on his fielding miscues. Maybe the A’s should lay down a few bunts to test him again if the game is close?

Tim Wakefield enjoys seeing the Angels uniforms, he has pitched nice games against Anaheim in the past. Ramon Ortiz gives up homers in bunches and the last time I looked the Green Monster was still 315 feet from home plate.

Gil Meche and Jason Bonderman, two surprises face each other. Last year the Tigers gave Seattle all they could handle in Comerica, let’s see if this sorry offense can get to Meche and his bull pen mates.

The White Sox and Twins don’t like each other. Mark Buehrle never misses a chance to face the Twins and opposes Brad Radke in the Dome tonight. Good series, but Minnesota seems to be the better ball club right now. Radke better go deep into the game because the Twins pen is gassed after the tough series with the Royals.

Two change up guys go in KC. Toronto’s Mark Hendrickson about 6′ 9″ should throw harder, but doesn’t against change up specialist Chris George for KC, patience at hte plate is a must tonight.

Woody Williams is one good pitcher and faces Matt Clement in St. Louis. The Cards are struggling in all phases of the game and are looking weary late in the game as huge leads slip away.

The Cubs played 17 innings in Milwaukee yesterday and need a good game from Clement today.

Livan Hernandez in Coors. Ouch.

Vincente Padilla an all star in 2002 has struggled this year. Jeroime Robertson is back from the minors so let’s see what happens tonight. This game could see some runs and end up being a bull pen contest.

How about the Phillies Turk Wendell, he hasn’t given up a run this season, valuable man late in the game for Larry Bowa.

Other pitchers of note:

Jake Peavy against Mike Hampton, both coming off good starts.

Darren Dreifort strikes out eight to nine a game but needs to lower his pitch count to go deeper into the game.

Miguel Batista can he put two good ones back to back. Pittsburgh should be cooperative.

One last thought when did Marcus Giles become a .337 hitter?

See you again soon.

Amen. Luck is the residue of design, too.

I think the A’s should hold on to Dye for the year. I don’t really think anyone would take over a good chunk of his contract anyways. Whether or not the A’s keep him after this year would obviously depend on how well he performs and what he’d be willing to sign for. The A’s defense is better without him, no question. They obviously need to try and make some room for Byrnes. He has suprised everyone. I think he should take over Long’s spot. Long can’t hit worth anything and doesn’t even do the basics like moving runners over. Maybe Long and Piatt can be packaged together for a dominant relief pitcher?
