Inside Baseball

Segment 1: A’s Announcer, Ken Korach

Segment 2: Fred Wallin

Segment 3: Baltimore Orioles Scout, Deacon Jones

Just click on the segment and you will hear the show. Hope you enjoy this, I thank Jeff and Alma once again for making this available to everyone.

Great to have Ken Korach give us his view on the “Big Hurt”, Fred Wallin is an expert on Southern California sports and talks about the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim law suit, then Orioles scout Deacon Jones covers the WBC plus fills us in on the 2006 Birds. Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Marty

Marty,

Thanks for doing this. I am not looking forward to having the A’s on 1550. The reception in Marin is bad. Your show was fading in and out as I drove in San Rafael last night after dark. Is there any hope that the signal might be improved before the games start? I can’t pick up 1550 at all on my small radio that I use when I walk.

Hey Marty,

I’m feel like Ken Korach, I just can’t wait for the first broadcast. Fred Wallin’s view on Angels trial is very interesting, because I don’t know about insist of deal with Disney and City of Anaheim. The O’s scout Deacon Jones mentioned the Caribbean Series, which Ramon Hernandez hit the cycle just yesterday.

I’m going to flip back and forward from the Super Bowl and Caribbean Series on Sunday.

Hi Marty,

thanks for posting the show. I work irregular hours so am not always able to listen on the radio…and it’s real convenient to choose which segment to listen to, if I don’t have time to hear the whole program in one shot. The format is much appreciated.

Ok, Marty. it’s February 4th and still no official radio announcement. Since tickets are being printed advertising games on 1550 and 860(KTRB), perhaps there will be NO formal announcement made.

Perhaps the A’s were/are hoping to announce who will be on the entire network. Still, when the 49’ers moved to KNBR, the announcement was made about six months in advance.

Like I’ve asked before. Are the A’s considered THAT unattractive a radio property?

The announcement should be any minute. It’s clear that 1550 AM and 1220 AM will carry the games in the Bay Area and down to San Jose. 860 fell through at the last minute so the far East Bay will have to look to the Modesto affiliate for the game.
Right Off The Bat will be one hour in length on 1550 I’ve yet to have a meaningful conversation with 1220 but that should happen this week.
I know it’s not the best situation, but maybe after seeing what the front office had to go through this winter perhaps next year the A’s will consider buying a station to cover the whole Bay Area.
It’s tough to get KGO, KCBS, KSFO or any other 50,000 watt station to give up 5 -6 hours of programming for baseball.
The Giants have it covered with KNBR which also happens to be an investor in the team. So the KNBR type deal will not work for the A’s.
stay tuned.

since Salem owns 1220 in San Jose and also owns 710 in Sacramento a 20,000 watt station that carries Nevada Football and Basketball, hopefully Sacramento will have A’s baseball since 1550 and 1220 do not cover the sacramento valley. Marty any ideas about the A’s network, any stations signed already I can’t wait until March 4th’s Right of the bat show Go A’s.

Hi,

I saw your comments and wanted to help. Get XM Radio, you will get crystal clear satellite reception.
I dont work for XM, or sell um, i subscribe to XM with 3 radios. One for car, One for home, and One for walking. I live in WV, not California, and I listen to the A’s games, including ALL exhibitions. Good Luck to you and the A’s this year.

What is the Modesto affiliate? Did they get a station in the Stockton-Sacramento areas?

Marty,

there simply has to be the another plan

1220 simply does not cover the south bay after 6pm
the signal drop so much it is not audible, believe me several have tried

1220 is only a realisitic weekend option the rest is a non factor

and they want a stadium?
